She referenced a 2018 report from the California State University, which revealed that 41% of CSU students experienced food insecurity.
Herrera-Tan stressed the importance of ensuring that students have access to nutritious food without compromising their health due to financial constraints. She encouraged students to explore the CalFresh program as a valuable resource.
Understanding CalFresh
CalFresh provides monthly assistance for purchasing nutritious food to low-income individuals and families in California. It is the state’s version of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps.
