The Georgia Bureau of Investigations announced on Tuesday night that it will be conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting at an Atlanta mall. The Atlanta Police Department requested the GBI’s assistance following the incident.

Jeremy Malone, 34, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting that took place at Peachtree Center Mall in Atlanta, Georgia. The altercation occurred around 2:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, resulting in Malone pulling out a gun and shooting a man inside the mall, according to the GBI.

In addition to the initial victim, two other individuals were injured by the suspect’s gunfire in the food court area of the mall, as confirmed by both the police and the GBI.

Amidst the chaos and panic, an off-duty Atlanta police officer bravely confronted the armed suspect and ultimately shot him, as explained by Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum.

All four individuals involved in the incident were promptly taken to local hospitals for medical treatment. The three victims are currently in stable condition and are receiving the necessary care, as reported by the GBI on Tuesday night.

The victims have been identified as a 47-year-old man, a 69-year-old woman, and a 70-year-old woman, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

Following his medical treatment, Malone was released into the custody of the Atlanta police. The suspect’s handgun was also recovered at the scene, providing crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation.

Chief Schierbaum revealed that Malone has a criminal history, including serving time in prison for armed robbery. He emphasized that Malone should not have been in possession of a firearm, given his past criminal activities.
