The 19-year-old tourist, who was in the city with a friend, was attacked in the early hours of the morning, resulting in a severe cut from his mouth to his ear. Fortunately, his injuries were non-life threatening, and he was taken to Mater Hospital for treatment.
According to reports in the Sunday World, the young man and his friend were outside a shop when they were approached by a male wielding a knife. The assailant demanded their phones before carrying out the attack. Gardaí at Bridewell garda station are now appealing for witnesses to come forward following the incident on Friday, June 7.
This disturbing incident comes just days after a murder investigation was launched in the Finglas area of Dublin. Mark Carroll, a 34-year-old father of two, tragically lost his life after sustaining fatal stab wounds. He was rushed to Connolly Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
