Jaipur: In a distressing incident that has shocked the residents of Barmer district in Rajasthan, a mentally unstable man has been accused of brutally murdering his wife and injuring his daughter with an axe.
The incident took place on Tuesday night, June 11, and the motive behind the gruesome act remains unclear, leaving the community in a state of shock and disbelief.
The accused has been identified as 40-year-old Chunni Lal, who is said to have killed his wife Jiya, aged 38, and caused severe injuries to his 18-year-old daughter.
Following the horrific incident, Chunni Lal was apprehended by law enforcement officials and is currently undergoing interrogation to determine the factors that led to this tragic event.
Police Statement on the Incident
Girdhari Ram Dhorimanna, the Station House Officer, provided further details on the case, stating, “Chunni Lal, who appears to be mentally unstable, attacked his wife Jiya with an axe, resulting in her immediate demise. His 18-year-old daughter also sustained injuries during the altercation.”
He added, “Lal has been taken into custody and is currently being questioned by authorities.”
Post-Mortem Examination and Previous Similar Incident
The police have transferred the body of the deceased to a mortuary for post-mortem examination, while the investigation into the case continues to unfold.
This tragic incident bears a resemblance to a previous occurrence in December 2023, where another mentally unstable individual allegedly committed a similar act in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, resulting in the deaths of his parents and sister while they were asleep.
According to reports, the accused, a 20-year-old named Mohit, remained inside the house with the deceased bodies overnight before eventually going to the police station the following morning to report the triple homicide.
“Dilip Singh, aged 45, his wife Rajesh Kanwar, aged 40, and their daughter Priyanka, aged 15, were brutally attacked and killed by Mohit using an axe on that fateful night,” stated Padukalan SHO Manvendra Singh.
The unsettling incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing mental health issues and providing support to individuals in need.
