In a devastating incident just a few miles north of Carrizo Springs in Dimmit County, a head-on collision has resulted in the loss of seven lives and left two children critically injured. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is currently conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash, which occurred on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports from DPS officials, the tragic accident involved a Chrysler 300 that was carrying four individuals. The vehicle is believed to have been travelling at a high speed when it lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided with a Dodge pickup. The impact of the crash caused the Chrysler to roll into a nearby ditch, where it caught fire, tragically claiming the lives of all four occupants.
The victims inside the Chrysler have been identified as 20-year-old Ysamellie Castillon, 17-year-old Elijah Giovani Perez, 17-year-old Francisco Garza, and 13-year-old Louis Mario Martinez Jr. All four individuals were residents of the area and their untimely deaths have sent shockwaves through the community.
Tragically, the collision also resulted in the deaths of three individuals who were travelling in the Dodge pickup. They have been identified as 50-year-old Isabel Small, 64-year-old San Juanita De La Cruz, and 83-year-old Victor Manuel Martinez. The impact of the crash left both vehicles severely damaged, highlighting the force of the collision.
The only survivors of the crash are two children, whose identities have not been disclosed. They were airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio, over 100 miles away, to receive urgent medical treatment for their injuries. The extent of their injuries and their current condition remain unknown at this time.
