The heartbreaking event took place on Saturday, June 1, at approximately 6.08 a.m., prompting officers from the 47th Precinct to respond to a distressing 911 call regarding an assault on 1418 Oakley Street.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement discovered the lifeless body of a 37-year-old female with a severe slash wound to her neck. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi. The victim was later identified as Ashley Smith, 37, residing on East Lincoln Avenue in Mt. Vernon, NY.
As the investigation progresses, authorities have identified Jalessa Richardson, 32, as a person of interest in the case. Richardson was last seen fleeing the scene on foot northbound on Oakley Street. A photograph of Richardson has been provided to aid in her apprehension.
