A 36-year-old man from Harrison has been apprehended for driving 35km/h over the speed limit during adverse weather conditions. The incident occurred at around 4.30pm on Tuesday, 11 June 2024, on Horse Park Drive in Throsby.

ACT Road Policing officers were conducting speed enforcement operations when they observed a Honda Jazz sedan exceeding the 80km/h limit by reaching a speed of 115km/h on the wet road. The driver, a 36-year-old with a full licence, was promptly pulled over for further investigation.

Following the traffic stop, the driver was issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice (TIN) for surpassing the speed limit by 30-45km/h. This violation carries a penalty of $700 and incurs four demerit points on the driver’s record.

Acting Inspector Travis Mills, who oversees Road Policing, emphasised the importance of adhering to speed limits, particularly in adverse weather conditions. He cautioned drivers to adjust their speed according to the prevailing road conditions.

Inspector Mills stated, “Speed limits are designed for optimal conditions. When faced with hazards such as wet weather, drivers must reduce their speed accordingly to ensure safety on the roads.”

He further remarked, “Driving at excessive speeds, especially in inclement weather, is not only unacceptable but also reckless. It endangers not only the offending driver but also other road users.”

Inspector Mills urged all motorists to consider the risks associated with speeding and prioritize the safety of themselves and others when behind the wheel.
