AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Amarillo Police Department announced the arrest of a man on Tuesday in connection with a homicide that occurred at an area business on June 5.
Details of the Incident
Authorities were called to the Georgia Street Taphouse following reports of a disturbance. It was alleged that 21-year-old Joel Arellano Mendez had assaulted another man, identified as 58-year-old Joe Luis Gonzales.
Gonzales sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack and was rushed to a hospital in Lubbock. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on June 10.
Arrest and Investigation
Following the incident, Mendez fled the scene. However, he was apprehended by law enforcement and taken into custody on Tuesday. He has been booked into the Potter County Jail on a felony warrant.
The Amarillo Police Department’s Homicide Unit is currently conducting an investigation into the case to gather more details and evidence.
