Teenager Charged with DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide in Ocala Crash

A 17-year-old teenager is facing serious charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide following a tragic fiery crash that claimed the lives of a husband and wife in Ocala, Florida. The incident, which occurred on February 20 near the 1500 block of Southeast 36th Avenue, has left the community in shock.

According to reports from Ocala police, the couple’s Mazda Miata burst into flames upon impact, with the man being ejected from the vehicle and the woman trapped inside. Tragically, both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, leaving a void in the hearts of their loved ones.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz SUV involved in the crash has been identified as Frank Scudder IV, a 17-year-old who sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Investigators have revealed that Scudder was allegedly speeding at over 120 mph in the moments leading up to the collision, with no signs of braking.

Furthermore, a blood test conducted after the crash indicated that Scudder’s blood alcohol level was .188, which is more than double the legal limit. As a result, Ocala police have arrested Scudder and charged him with two counts of DUI manslaughter, two counts of vehicular manslaughter, and three counts of DUI property damage.

In a statement released by Ocala police, they emphasised the severe consequences of DUI-related crashes on the community and expressed their commitment to seeking justice for the victims and their families. The authorities are determined to hold accountable those responsible for such tragic incidents.

The news of this devastating crash serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of making responsible choices behind the wheel. As the community mourns the loss of two innocent lives, it is imperative for all road users to prioritise safety and vigilance while driving.
