The incident involved a son fatally shooting his father, leading to the son’s arrest and detention in the Bulloch County Jail.

During the press conference, which took place on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 1:45 pm, Bulloch County Sheriff Noel Brown and Captain Todd Hutchens provided additional details regarding the shooting. It was confirmed that a 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun was used in the shooting. The son, identified as Brandon Connely, is now facing multiple serious charges, including Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault with Intent to Murder, Aggravated Battery, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

The initial report of the incident indicated that the shooting occurred in the Oakfield subdivision north of Statesboro on Monday evening, resulting in the tragic death of a 57-year-old man named Tony Connely. The suspect, Brandon Connely, who is the victim’s son, surrendered to authorities at the Bulloch County Sheriff’s office following the incident.

Authorities received a distressing call reporting the shooting at 7:26 pm on June 10, 2024. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies confirmed the death of Tony Connely due to gunshot wounds. The victim’s wife, who had sought refuge at a neighbor’s home during the incident, escaped physical harm.

A coordinated effort involving Bulloch County Sheriff’s deputies, Georgia State Patrol, and Statesboro Police Officers was launched to locate the shooter. After several sightings of the suspect’s vehicle, Brandon Connely drove to the parking lot of the Bulloch County Sheriff’s office around 8:00 pm and surrendered himself to authorities.
