JOHNSON COUNTY, Mo., —A devastating accident took place just before 1 p.m. on Monday in Johnson County, Missouri, resulting in the loss of a Kansas woman and a man from Colorado.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 2018 Chevy Silverado, driven by a 16-year-old boy from Warrensburg, was travelling eastbound on U.S. 50 at Business 50 in Warrensburg, Missouri. Unfortunately, the driver fell asleep behind the wheel, causing the pickup truck to veer off the right side of the road, re-enter the road, cross Business 50, become airborne, and collide with a northbound 2022 Acura RDX driven by Patricia L. Moffett, 83, from Overland Park.

The impact of the crash pushed the Acura into a road sign, resulting in the tragic deaths of Patricia L. Moffett and a passenger, Derek B. Moffett, 55, from Erie, Colorado. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Emergency services were quick to respond, with Life-Flight transporting two other passengers in the Acura, identified as Alexandria B. Moffett, 19, and a 16-year-old girl, both from Erie, Colorado, to Research Medical Center for urgent medical treatment. Additionally, a private vehicle transported the 16-year-old pickup driver, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, to Western Missouri Medical Center for evaluation and care, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
