MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – New information has come to light regarding the tragic stabbing incident that took place in Myrtle Beach over the weekend, resulting in the death of a 55-year-old woman.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning at the bus transfer station on 10th Avenue North, where authorities received reports of a stabbing.
Upon arrival at the scene, Myrtle Beach police discovered the lifeless body of Jeanette Harding.
According to warrants issued in connection with the case, investigators conducted interviews with witnesses, reviewed surveillance footage from the area, and pieced together the events leading up to the fatal attack. It was determined that Harding was asleep when the perpetrator, identified as 33-year-old Michael Mateo, approached and fatally stabbed her.
Mateo was observed fleeing the scene following the incident, but was apprehended shortly thereafter by law enforcement officers. It was noted in the warrants that Mateo was found wearing the same outfit he had on during the stabbing, as captured in the surveillance footage.
Currently, Michael Mateo is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without the option of posting bond.
The Myrtle Beach community has been left shocked and saddened by this senseless act of violence, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
