Odalys Maria Bancroft, 43, was driving her minivan with her 4-year-old son, Theodore Couto, when they stopped at a drive-thru ATM at Chase Bank around 7:37 a.m. A man identified as Bancroft’s 41-year-old ex-boyfriend, Michael Andres Pineda Lozano, pulled up next to them and opened fire towards the minivan before turning the gun on himself.
A Miami-Dade police sergeant who was in the area responded to the scene after hearing gunshots. Upon arrival, he discovered the lifeless bodies of Bancroft, her son, and the shooter inside the minivan.
