On a fateful Monday afternoon in Warrensburg, Missouri, a devastating crash took the lives of an Overland Park, Kansas, woman and a Colorado man. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that the incident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 50 Highway and Business 50, involving a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2022 Acura RDX.

According to the MSHP Crash Report, the preliminary investigation reveals that the driver of the Silverado, a 16-year-old individual, fell asleep at the wheel around 12:50 p.m. The Silverado veered off the right side of the road, re-entered, and crossed Business 50, ultimately going airborne. The truck then collided with the stationary Acura RDX at the intersection.

The impact of the crash was so severe that both vehicles were forced off the east side of the roadway, with the Acura striking a road sign. Tragically, the driver and one occupant of the Acura, identified as 83-year-old Patricia L Moffett from Overland Park, Kansas, and 55-year-old Derek B Moffett from Erie, Colorado, respectively, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Additionally, two other occupants of the Acura, a 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old girl, sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to a Kansas City hospital for treatment. All four occupants of the Acura were reported to be wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Silverado, also a 16-year-old from Warrensburg, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. It was noted that the driver was not wearing a seat belt during the collision. The authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine further details and factors contributing to the tragic accident.
