Jesus Lopez Flores : OSHA Probing Death of Worker near Asheville

A devastating incident occurred on June 10 in Fairview, where a 26-year-old construction worker lost his life while working on installing high-speed internet for a new housing development. The worker, identified as Jesus Lopez Flores, 26, from Gainesville, Georgia, was operating construction equipment when tragedy struck.

According to First Sgt. Barry Burnette of the N.C. Highway Patrol, the accident took place on Fairview Forest Drive, where the equipment Lopez Flores was operating veered off the road and tumbled down an embankment. The rugged terrain of the area contributed to the severity of the incident.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Buncombe County authorities received a 911 call about the accident at approximately 8:15 a.m. on that fateful day. Responding to the scene were Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department, Buncombe County EMS, and Fairview Volunteer Fire Department.

The North Carolina Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Division is currently conducting an investigation into the fatality. Spokesperson Erin Wilson confirmed that the employer’s identity is being withheld at this time as part of the ongoing investigation process.

Safety Regulations and Reporting

Employers are mandated to report fatalities to the OSH Division within eight hours of the incident, as per safety and health laws in the state. This ensures that proper investigations can be carried out to prevent future tragedies.
