Multiple violent altercations erupted over the weekend, resulting in four individuals being stabbed, with three fatalities and one person left injured.

One of the tragic incidents occurred in Ongwediva, where a 31-year-old man, Sheuyange Petrus, known as ‘Peter Kalyongo’, was allegedly stabbed to death by a 28-year-old man following an argument at a local drinking establishment on Saturday.

Oshana police spokesperson Chief Inspector Thomas Aiyambo revealed in a police crime report released on Sunday that the fatal altercation took place at Rasta Kapana & Bar at the New Reception in Ongwediva around 02h05.

Aiyambo stated, “The suspect reportedly used a knife to stab the victim in the shoulder and back after a heated argument, ultimately leading to the victim’s untimely demise. The victim was rushed to Oshakati State Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.”

The deceased, Peter Kalyongo, hailed from Onamutai village in the Ongwediva district, and his next of kin have been duly informed of the tragic incident.

The alleged perpetrator has been apprehended and identified as a resident of New Reception in Ongwediva. Aiyambo added, “The okapi knife believed to have been used in the murder has been recovered.”

In another harrowing incident at Y2K Bar in Coblenz, Otjozondjupa region, a 33-year-old man fell victim to a stabbing attack allegedly carried out by his 44-year-old colleague during a dispute over money. The victim, a farm worker at Otjuuru Tjongombe cattle post, was critically wounded in the altercation.

Police Response and Investigations

Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi confirmed that the injured victim was rushed to Grootfontein State Hospital and is currently in a serious but stable condition. The knife used in the crime has been confiscated as evidence.

The suspect has been arrested and is scheduled to appear in Grootfontein Magistrates’ Court for further legal proceedings.

Tragedy struck near Masokotwani School in Katima Mulilo when 19-year-old Machana Sitali lost his life after being stabbed in the chest while walking with his girlfriend. The suspect managed to evade police capture and remains at large.

Shikwambi mentioned, “Efforts to apprehend the suspect are ongoing, and investigations into the incident are actively being pursued.”

In a separate incident at Alu Corner Bar in Otavi, Elizabeth Uwukhaes, a 21-year-old woman, was fatally stabbed during a confrontation with a male acquaintance. She tragically passed away en route to Otavi State Clinic.

Shikwambi elaborated, “The suspect was swiftly arrested, and the murder weapon secured for forensic analysis. The victim’s relatives have been informed, and police are diligently working on the case.”
