A woman from Louisiana is currently recovering in hospital after a terrifying incident where she was viciously attacked by a man’s dog while trying to help him out with some money. The victim, 64-year-old Elsa Davila, was out grocery shopping near the Sulphur Plaza on June 2 when she encountered a man with a dog who was asking for assistance, as reported by KPLC.
What started off as a simple act of kindness quickly turned into a nightmare for Davila. According to her daughters, as she was on her way back after giving the man some money, the dog suddenly broke free from its leash and launched a ferocious attack on her.
The severity of the attack left Davila with serious injuries to her face and stomach, prompting her to be rushed to a hospital in New Orleans for urgent medical treatment. Her daughters, Savanna Gonzales and Michelle Garcia, were devastated by the sight of their mother’s injuries and have set up a GoFundMe page to support her recovery journey.
Gonzales described the heartbreaking scene at the hospital, stating, “I saw her in the hospital, and it was just devastating to see a hole in her face.” Garcia added, “It’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life, and I like scary movies. But that’s just something else.”
Following plastic surgery, Davila is now on the road to recovery, although she is currently unable to speak or eat solid foods. Gonzales mentioned, “She’s not allowed to talk or eat anything. She’s on a liquid diet and can’t talk. She has to text or write it down for the nurses.”
The man responsible for the dog, identified as 37-year-old Kyle Smith, is now facing a number of charges including trespassing, cruelty to animals, and unlawful ownership of a vicious dog. Garcia, who works at a nearby store where the attack took place, revealed that the dog had caused issues in the past and had to be moved off the premises.
Describing their mother as a friendly and caring individual, Davila’s daughters expressed how this traumatic incident has left her deeply affected. Despite her fears and nightmares about the attack, Davila is showing strength and resilience in her recovery process.
