PEKAN: The tragic incident involving a Form Five student and a two-year-old girl who lost their lives due to food poisoning on Monday is currently under investigation by the Health Ministry.

During a press conference after a visit to the district health office (PKD) in Pekan, Pahang, Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni stated that the Division of Public Health is looking into the case and an official statement will be released once the investigation is complete.

The Health Ministry is working closely with the authorities to determine the cause of the food poisoning that led to the untimely deaths of the two individuals. Pahang Health Director Datuk Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman was also present during the press conference to provide updates on the investigation.

Police Reports Confirm Suspected Food Poisoning

Recent reports from the police have confirmed that two deaths, including the 17-year-old boy and the two-year-old girl, were linked to suspected food poisoning from a religious school in Gombak.

Gombak district police chief ACP Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir revealed that the teenager had consumed food brought back by his mother after a religious programme at the school. This resulted in severe diarrhoea, leading to loss of consciousness on Monday afternoon.

Similarly, the two-year-old girl had ingested food brought by her father, who was on duty as a security guard at the school. She exhibited symptoms of fever, vomiting, and diarrhoea before being rushed to the hospital.

Ensuring Food Safety to Prevent Tragedies

Food safety is of utmost importance to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future. It is crucial for individuals and food establishments to adhere to strict hygiene practices and proper food handling procedures to safeguard public health.

The bodies of the victims have been transferred to the Selayang Hospital Forensic Unit for further investigation. The case has been classified as sudden death pending the outcome of the investigations.

Authorities have identified the food involved in both cases as fried bee hoon and eggs. Further analysis and testing will be conducted to determine if any contamination or improper handling led to the fatal consequences.

As the investigation continues, the Health Ministry and relevant agencies are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the public. Updates on the case will be provided as more information becomes available.
