Accident – Death – Obituary News : Leading Kannada film star Darshan Thoogudeepa has been taken into custody in connection with an alleged murder case, as per reports from police sources on Tuesday. The 47-year-old actor was apprehended from a hotel in Mysuru regarding the homicide of a man named Renuka Swamy on June 9 in the Kamakshipalya police station area.
Following the purported killing, the body of Swamy, who was employed at a pharmacy company and hailed from Chitradurga, was disposed of in a stormwater drain in Kamakshipalya. It is believed that the victim had made disparaging remarks about a film actress in a social media post.
According to a report by The Hindu, the victim was summoned to Darshan’s farmhouse in Mysuru, where the accused supposedly subjected him to torture and subsequently murdered him before discarding the body in a drain in Kamakshipalya two months ago. The authorities were alerted to the murder after being informed by local residents. The body underwent an autopsy, and the forensic examination confirmed that Swamy had indeed been murdered.
Further inquiries led to the detention of certain suspects, who divulged crucial information, as per a police official. Based on their statements, Darshan was taken into custody, sources disclosed. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain whether the actor had direct involvement in the murder or was part of a larger scheme, the sources indicated. Tight security measures have been implemented at Darshan’s residence in RR Nagar.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda stated, “In connection with a murder case filed in the Kamakshipalya Police Station area of Bengaluru West division on June 9, one of the Kannada film industry actors has been apprehended and is currently being interrogated. The specific details are yet to be determined as the investigation is ongoing. The victim, Renukaswamy, aged 33 from Chitradurga. Approximately 10 individuals have been detained and are being questioned. Further information is awaited,” as reported by news agency ANI.
