In the wake of a devastating incident involving the tragic deaths of a Form Five student and a two-year-old girl due to suspected food poisoning, the Health Ministry (MOH) continues to investigate the matter.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni provided an update on the investigation, stating that the MOH headquarters is actively looking into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. A formal statement regarding the incident is expected to be released by the Division of Public Health.

During a press conference following a visit to the district health office in Pekan, Pahang, Datuk Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman, the Pahang Health director, was also present to address the situation.

Police Reports and Details of the Incident

Reports from the police indicated that two separate deaths occurred as a result of suspected food poisoning at a religious school in Gombak. The victims, a 17-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl, reportedly fell ill after consuming food brought from the school.

The teenage boy had eaten food brought by his mother following a religious programme at the school, while the young girl consumed food brought by her father, a security guard at the school. Both victims experienced symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, and fever before their untimely deaths.

Following the discovery of the victims, their bodies were taken to the Selayang Hospital Forensic Unit for further examination. The police have classified the case as sudden death pending the outcome of the investigation.

Food Identification and Continued Investigation

The food items linked to the tragic incident were identified as fried bee hoon and eggs, according to Gombak district police chief ACP Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir.

The MOH and law enforcement authorities are working diligently to uncover the root cause of the food poisoning and prevent similar incidents in the future. The health and safety of the public remain a top priority as officials strive to bring clarity to this tragic situation.
