Accident – Death – Obituary News : JOLIET — An altercation at the Old Joliet Prison on Sunday afternoon resulted in a stabbing incident, as reported by the Joliet Police Department. The incident was said to have stemmed from a road rage confrontation involving multiple motorcycle riders who were leaving the prison after a car show.
Sgt. Tizoc Landeros of the Joliet Police Investigations provided details of the events that unfolded on Sunday. James R. Reed, a 44-year-old resident of Joliet, was taken into custody on aggravated battery charges. He was later released after being issued a notice to appear in court.
The incident took place at 1125 Collins St. where officers were present to oversee security for a car show at the Old Joliet Prison. At 4:34 p.m., authorities received reports of a stabbing in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers encountered a Will County Sheriff’s deputy who was speaking with Reed. Reed admitted to the officers that he had stabbed someone in the vicinity but did not provide further details.
Following the confrontation, officers located the stabbing victim and gathered statements from eyewitnesses. According to witness accounts, a road rage incident occurred as two motorcycle riders clashed with the victim’s vehicle while exiting the prison parking lot. Reed, one of the motorcycle riders involved, engaged in an argument with the victim which escalated into a physical altercation resulting in the victim being stabbed.
Subsequently, Reed complained of jaw pain and was promptly taken to Ascension St. Joseph Hospital for medical attention. He was treated and subsequently discharged from the hospital. Joliet Patch is currently working to obtain a mugshot of Reed and further information regarding the severity of the victim’s injuries.
