MANCHESTER, NJ (OCEAN)–Authorities in Manchester Township, New Jersey, reported a serious motor vehicle collision on Sunday, June 9, 2024, involving a motorcycle and a car at the intersection of County Route 571 and Beacon Street. The incident occurred around 1:11 pm, drawing a swift response from the Manchester Township Police Department.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found 30-year-old Collins Oluleti from Toms River lying in the roadway with a severe head injury. Oluleti was unresponsive and was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he remains in critical condition. The crash involved a silver 2004 Toyota Camry and a 2024 black Kawasaki Vulcan S motorcycle, with both vehicles sustaining significant damage.

The investigation revealed that Oluleti was riding eastbound on County Route 571 when the Toyota, driven by 26-year-old Andy Hernandez-Cheneaux of Toms River, entered the intersection from Beacon Street. Oluleti attempted to avoid a collision by braking, causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and fall to the pavement. The subsequent impact with the Toyota resulted in Oluleti being dragged a short distance under the vehicle.

Fortunately, Hernandez-Cheneaux and the three passengers in the Toyota—25-year-old Xiomara Lezama-Briceno, 24-year-old Geraldine Requena-Carrasco, and 28-year-old Juan Lezama-Briceno, all from Toms River—escaped injury. Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including EMTs, firefighters, paramedics, and Life Flight, provided assistance at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, with initial findings suggesting that failure to yield the right of way at the intersection was a primary factor in the crash. The Manchester Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section, led by Ptl. Michael O’Hara and Ptl. Sage Sysol, is handling the case.
