Laurel, Del. – In the early hours of Monday, two teenage males were arrested in Laurel after police discovered an illegal firearm in their possession during a loitering incident.

Incident Details

The Laurel Police Department reported that the incident took place at around 1 a.m. when officers were conducting a property check at the Hollybrook Farms Apartment Complex on Pasture Lane.

While on patrol, an officer noticed two teenagers on bicycles loitering in the breezeways of multiple buildings and knocking on windows of an occupied apartment. When the officer approached them, the teens fled on their bikes towards the front of the complex. Additional officers apprehended them between the 300 and 400 buildings.

Arrest and Charges

Both 14-year-old males, known to the Laurel Police Department from previous criminal investigations, were detained for violating the town’s curfew due to their age and the late hour. A search revealed that one of the teens was carrying a loaded firearm with an obliterated serial number, while the other was in possession of marijuana.

The teen found with the firearm, who did not reside in Hollybrook Apartments, faced charges including Concealed Carry of a Deadly Weapon (Class D Felony) and Trespassing 3rd Degree (Violation). He was remanded to the Stevenson House Juvenile Detention Center on $10,050 secured bail.

The second teen, a resident of Hollybrook Apartments, was charged with Possession of Marijuana Under 18 (Misdemeanor) and Loitering (Violation).

Parental Involvement

In addition to the charges against the teens, their parents received criminal summonses for violating the Laurel Town Curfew Ordinance, highlighting the community’s zero-tolerance approach towards juvenile-related crime.

Community Response

The Laurel Town Council recently amended the curfew ordinance to address the rise in juvenile-related violent crime, allowing law enforcement to take proactive measures against criminal behavior. This case marks a significant step in ensuring public safety.
