Investigation Continues into Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident in Trenton

TRENTON, UK (MERCER)–Authorities in Trenton continue to investigate a tragic incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 1, 2024. Trenton Police reported that at approximately 4:30 a.m., Trenton Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) responded to a call regarding a person found unresponsive on the street in the 800 block of S. Clinton Ave. Initially believed to be a cardiac arrest case, the individual, later identified as 26-year-old Shydasia Merrick of Trenton, was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center.

At 8:12 a.m., a nurse at the hospital alerted Trenton Communications about a patient with severe injuries consistent with a vehicular collision. Detective Vincent Gribbin, from the Trenton Police Department Fatal Crash Unit, was summoned to investigate. Upon inspection of the area where the victim was found, debris indicating a motor vehicle crash was discovered. Despite efforts to save her, Shydasia Merrick succumbed to her injuries after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The Trenton Police Department has issued a plea to the public for information regarding the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run. Described as a white 2019-2024 Toyota Rav 4, potentially an XLE model or higher, with a sunroof and colour-keyed mirrors, the vehicle is likely to have sustained damage to the driver’s side, including the sideview mirror and headlight assembly.

Collaborating with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team, authorities are determined to bring the responsible party to justice.
