A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday on Highway 113 in Northern California, resulting in the untimely death of a 19-year-old man following a car crash, as reported by the California Highway Patrol.
At approximately 6:40 p.m. on June 9, a grey Volkswagen sedan was travelling northbound on Highway 113, just south of Leisure Road, according to the CHP’s initial findings.
The Volkswagen abruptly veered into the southbound lane of Highway 113 in an attempt to overtake the two vehicles ahead of it. Simultaneously, a black Mercedes sedan was approaching from the opposite direction, heading south on Highway 113, south of Leisure Road.
In a desperate bid to avoid a collision, the driver of the Mercedes swerved to the right, but tragically, a head-on crash with the Volkswagen was inevitable. The impact caused both vehicles to careen off the road, resulting in a devastating accident.
Notably, at the location of the crash, the northbound lane of Highway 113 is demarcated by a solid yellow line, while the southbound lanes are delineated by broken yellow lines. Additionally, a curve in the roadway at the crash site may have contributed to the accident.
Tragically, the 19-year-old driver of the Volkswagen sustained fatal injuries in the crash and succumbed to them. The driver of the Mercedes, identified as 37-year-old Kristina Ramos, suffered severe leg injuries and was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
There were no passengers in either vehicle at the time of the collision, according to the CHP. Furthermore, the authorities have ruled out the involvement of drugs or alcohol as contributing factors in the tragic incident.
