GANSEVOORT, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Maryland State Police have announced the arrest of a Delaware man in connection with a fatal crash in Wicomico County back in May that tragically claimed the lives of a Gansevoort family of three. Jay Bynum, 59, of Seaford, is facing multiple charges in relation to the incident.

The initial investigation conducted by law enforcement revealed that Bynum was driving a Dodge Durango northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 13 when he collided with a Subaru Impreza. The occupants of the Impreza, identified as Dean Dennison, 21, and Sierra Merchant, 20, both from Gansevoort, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

In addition to Dennison and Merchant, their one-year-old child, Grayson Dennison, was also present in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Grayson was initially taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital before being transferred to Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

Following the crash, Bynum was airlifted to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore via a state police helicopter for medical treatment. He now faces a range of charges, including three counts of negligent manslaughter by auto, three counts of criminal negligent manslaughter by vehicle, three counts of negligent auto homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence, three counts of homicide by motor vehicle while impaired, driving under the influence, and driving while intoxicated.

Maryland State Police have confirmed that Bynum is currently being held without bond as the investigation into the crash continues to unfold.
