A 16-year-old boy who was reported missing in Mesa earlier this month has been found dead, Mesa police confirmed.
James Zoccoli was last seen on June 1 after he left his residence on foot. Mesa police issued a bulletin seeking assistance in locating the missing teenager.
On June 8, a young man was discovered unconscious at a residence in Phoenix and was rushed to the hospital. A nurse recognized him from Zoccoli’s missing person bulletin and immediately contacted the authorities.
The patient was positively identified as James Zoccoli. Tragically, the teenager did not regain consciousness and passed away on June 9.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is currently investigating the cause of Zoccoli’s death.
