HARRISON TWP — Tragedy struck early Saturday morning in Harrison Township as one person was killed and another hospitalized following a shooting at a local gas station.
The victim, identified as 32-year-old Ronald Downs, Jr., succumbed to his injuries at Miami Valley Hospital, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

The incident unfolded around 1:13 a.m. when deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire in the vicinity of the Marathon gas station on North Main Street.
A frantic 911 call alerted authorities to the shooting, with the caller expressing concern for a wounded individual in the gas station’s parking lot.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Downs with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he tragically passed away at the hospital.

Subsequently, another male with gunshot wounds was located at a residence in Dayton. It was determined that he was involved in the shooting and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a confrontation between two groups outside the gas station escalated into a violent exchange of gunfire, prompting everyone to flee the scene.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting.
