SHREVEPORT, U.K. (KSLA) – The Shreveport Police Department has apprehended an individual who allegedly tried to set himself and responding officers on fire.

At approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, law enforcement officials were dispatched to a report of a theft in the 3000 block of N Market Street, located near the Brookshire’s just north of I-220. Initial reports indicated that a man was pilfering items from a local drugstore. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect, later identified as Travis Sullivan, 36, at a nearby petrol station.

Upon approaching Sullivan, he purportedly began dousing himself and the surrounding area with gasoline. Subsequently, he ignited the gasoline on the ground and attempted to set the officers alight by throwing gasoline at them, according to police reports.

Despite the dangerous situation, officers managed to apprehend Sullivan. He now faces charges of battery on an officer (2 counts), aggravated assault on a police officer (3 counts), arson, and theft.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were sustained during this “highly perilous” incident, as confirmed by the authorities.
