Subsequent investigations revealed a spate of car break-ins in northern Iredell County and the Troutman area on the same day, with another vehicle reported stolen from a residence in the region. Detectives were able to link these incidents to the juvenile suspect, who was identified as the driver of the stolen vehicle and the perpetrator behind the break-ins.
Further probing led to the identification of Steven Michael Potts as the accomplice in the criminal activities. Potts was found to have aided in the break-ins and was directly involved in the theft of the second vehicle. Following the issuance of arrest warrants, Potts was apprehended on June 6.
