Accident – Death – Obituary News : Telangana Cyber Security Bureau officials made a trip to Delhi to apprehend the suspect, a 20-year-old student residing in Noida, originally from Jhansi, UP. The individual, identified as Jatin Kumar, was taken into custody on Sunday for hacking two apps associated with Telangana Police, namely Hawkeye and TSCOP. Subsequently, he shared the compromised data on a forum dedicated to data breaches, offering it for sale at a price of $150.
The arrest of the hacker was facilitated by the prompt action of the TGCSB following the registration of a case against him. Utilizing advanced technological tools, the bureau successfully tracked down and apprehended the individual. This was not the first time Jatin Kumar had engaged in cybercrimes, as he had previously been arrested by the Special Cell Dwaraka Police in New Delhi for similar hacking activities.
The compromised data from the Hawkeye app included distress calls from women, along with names, email addresses, phone numbers, and other sensitive information of approximately 200,000 users. In contrast, the TSCOP app, designed for internal use by the Telangana police, primarily served the purpose of providing instant information and managing in-house tasks, without collecting any financial or confidential user data. The police emphatically denied any involvement in selling data to third parties, refuting allegations suggesting otherwise.
In light of the data breach incident, the Telangana police have initiated comprehensive measures, including monitoring, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing across all external and internal police networks, websites, and mobile applications. This proactive approach aims to identify and rectify any security vulnerabilities to prevent potential breaches in the future.
