HOUSTON, Texas — Deputies from Constable Mark Herman’s Office apprehended a suspected drug dealer following a brief pursuit on June 5, 2024.

The incident unfolded when law enforcement officers attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on a vehicle in the 9800 block of Fallbrook Drive. The driver, later identified as Darrius McDowell, refused to comply with the authorities and initiated a short-lived chase. McDowell, in a bid to evade capture, discarded illicit substances from his vehicle as he attempted to flee. The pursuit culminated in McDowell losing control of his vehicle and colliding with a curb, rendering his car immobile.

Upon apprehension, law enforcement personnel discovered a significant quantity of illegal substances in McDowell’s possession. The confiscated items included 5.2 grams of Xanax, 14.5 grams of Hydrocodone, 214.2 grams of Carisoprodol, 1.14 ounces of marijuana, and a sum of $7,048 in U.S. currency.

Constable Mark Herman commented on the arrest, stating, “Darrius McDowell has been taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail. He faces charges of Evading in Motor Vehicle and Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute. McDowell’s bail amount has been established at $30,000 by the 184th District Court.”
