The attorney of athlete Ryan Garcia has stated that his recent arrest has come at an “extraordinarily challenging time” for the boxer. Garcia was arrested on a felony vandalism charge in California for allegedly causing damage to a hotel in Beverly Hills. The Beverly Hills Police Department confirmed that officers arrested Garcia, 25, on Saturday, June 8, after receiving a call about an “intoxicated person” at the Waldorf Astoria hotel on Wilshire Boulevard.
Lt. Andrew Myers stated, “During the investigation, the intoxicated person was identified as Ryan Garcia. Upon obtaining statements from the hotel management, it was determined that Mr. Garcia was a registered guest of the hotel and had caused damage to a guest room and the hallway of the hotel.” Following a request for his arrest by hotel management, Garcia was taken into custody and later transferred to a local hospital for medical care.
A video obtained by TMZ allegedly shows Garcia being led out of the hotel in handcuffs, with his face covered by a bike helmet. Earlier in the week, authorities were called for a welfare check after one of Garcia’s relatives expressed concern for his well-being.
Garcia’s attorney, Darin T. Chavez, emphasized the challenging circumstances surrounding the athlete, particularly in light of his mother’s health issues. It has been speculated that Garcia’s mother may have been diagnosed with breast cancer, based on social media posts from the boxer.
