Accident – Death – Obituary News : An Air India Express flight attendant has been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle 960 grams (2.1 lbs) of gold by concealing it in her rectum. The 26-year-old cabin crew member, identified as Surabhi Khatun, was detained on May 28 upon landing at Kannur Airport in Kerala, India, according to a source from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) as reported by India Today.
This incident marks the first known case in India where an airline staff member has been apprehended for smuggling gold through rectal concealment. A thorough investigation is currently underway, with initial findings suggesting that Surabhi Khatun may have been involved in multiple gold smuggling activities.
DRI officials have also interrogated several other cabin crew members suspected of having ties to a gold smuggling network operating in Kerala. Earlier this year, the Customs Preventive Commissionerate in Kerala arrested another Air India Express cabin crew member named Shafi for smuggling 1.45 kg of gold at Kochi airport in March.
