A tragic accident in Pitt County, North Carolina, has left four people dead and two others injured after a vehicle struck a guardrail on a highway late Saturday night. The driver, who survived the initial crash, was struck and killed while attempting to stop traffic.

According to reports from North Carolina State Highway Patrol Master Trooper Rico L. Stephens, the incident took place around 11:48 p.m. EDT. Suhziah Spruill, 22, of Snow Hill, North Carolina, was driving north on state highway 903 at a high speed when he veered off the road and collided with a guardrail.

Five passengers in the vehicle were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Tragically, three passengers lost their lives at the scene, while two others sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were rushed to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for treatment.

The victims have been identified as Nykwon Coppedge, 22, of Snow Hill; Zykhia Connor, 18, of Grifton; and Amoni Spruill, 20, of Farmville, all from North Carolina.

Following the crash, Suhziah Spruill exited his vehicle and entered the roadway in an attempt to halt oncoming traffic. Tragically, he was struck by a Kia Forte and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Kia Forte, whose identity has not been disclosed by authorities, will not face charges in connection with the incident. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
