LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KVVU/Gray News) – A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Las Vegas as a missing 2-year-old boy, Jacoby Robinson Jr., was tragically discovered deceased inside a dumpster, authorities confirmed.
The distressing episode began when officers were alerted to the disappearance of the young child at approximately 8:25 p.m. Promptly responding to the call, law enforcement initiated a search operation to locate the missing toddler.
After several hours of intensive efforts, Jacoby was found lifeless within a garbage dumpster, prompting a devastating outcome for the family and the community.
Upon further investigation, detectives identified the toddler’s mother, 23-year-old Diaja Smith, as the primary suspect in the case, as reported by KVVU.
Smith was promptly apprehended and is set to be remanded to the Clark County Detention Center on charges of open murder and additional felonious offences.
Resident Kelvyn Barnett, residing in the vicinity where the tragic discovery was made, recounted witnessing Smith’s frantic search for Jacoby prior to her arrest.
“I saw a lady sitting there with her two other kids, really hysterical saying ‘somebody took my kid, somebody took my kid,’” Barnett shared. “To find out that she was the one that did this is the most shocking aspect of it all.”
