Accident – Death – Obituary News : A man from Monroe County has been apprehended by authorities after a dramatic car chase in a stolen vehicle on Saturday evening. The incident unfolded at approximately 7:30 p.m. on June 8, when officers from the Monroe Police Department received reports of a carjacking on Macomb Street.

The victim recounted to law enforcement that the suspect had assaulted them before making off with their olive green Subaru Outback, speeding away in a southerly direction on Macomb. Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies were swiftly summoned to aid in the search for the stolen car. Less than a quarter of an hour later, a deputy spotted the Subaru travelling northbound on Monroe Street in Frenchtown Township.

Despite the deputy’s attempts to pull the vehicle over, the suspect adamantly refused to comply, prompting a pursuit. The sheriff’s office revealed that the stolen Subaru continued to evade capture, maintaining “moderate speeds” as it headed onto northbound Telegraph.

To bring the chase to a halt, another deputy strategically deployed stop sticks on Telegraph as the suspect approached the Frenchtown Villa Mobile Home Park. The stop sticks successfully punctured two of the Outback’s tires, forcing the suspect to veer into the mobile home park. The suspect then manoeuvred through the park, leading deputies on a circuitous route before abruptly coming to a stop.

The 47-year-old suspect, hailing from Newport, tried to flee on foot upon exiting the vehicle but was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement. He is anticipated to face charges of fleeing and eluding, assault and battery on police, and resisting and obstructing in relation to the pursuit. Additionally, authorities in the city of Monroe are considering charges in connection to the initial carjacking.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with officials urging individuals with any information regarding the carjacking or chase to contact 734-240-7534.

This latest development underscores the importance of swift police action in apprehending suspects involved in criminal activities. The seamless coordination between the Monroe Police Department and the Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies highlights the dedication of law enforcement in ensuring the safety and security of the community..
