The LCSO dispatcher promptly directed the injured men to the Plum Grove Fire Department, situated at 7733 FM 1010 in Cleveland, Texas, approximately three miles away from the location of the shooting.

Upon their arrival at the fire department, emergency medical services (EMS) personnel wasted no time in assessing the victims’ injuries and swiftly transporting them to Kingwood Hospital for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, LCSO patrol deputies, informed about the shooting near CR 340, immediately initiated a search for the crime scene, with the Criminal Investigation Division also mobilized to provide assistance.

The two victims were identified as Richard Soto, aged 20, and Edgar Garrido, aged 21, both residents of Cleveland. Following detailed interviews conducted at Kingwood Hospital, investigators were able to pinpoint the exact location of the crime scene to the 200 block of CR 3408 within the Bella Vista Subdivision. Subsequently, a search warrant was obtained for the residence, prompting the activation of the Liberty County Special Response Team (SRT) to execute the search operation.

Through meticulous investigations, it was revealed that the two victims had driven to the suspects’ residence in Bella Vista, where they were confronted by three individuals – two adult males and one juvenile female – in the driveway. Shockingly, the two male suspects allegedly opened fire on the victims’ vehicle, resulting in severe injuries to both individuals. The suspects were later identified as Mario Loza, aged 17, and Jayden Christley, aged 18, both hailing from Cleveland, along with a 15-year-old female juvenile.

In a significant development, Mario Loza was swiftly apprehended in the early hours of Sunday, June 9, 2024, and subsequently charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is currently in custody at the Liberty County Jail awaiting further legal proceedings. Conversely, Jayden Christley remains at large, with law enforcement authorities issuing two warrants for his arrest on the same charges. The juvenile female involved in the incident was released to her mother and is not anticipated to face charges in connection with the shooting.

Captain David Meyers, the designated spokesperson for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that “both victims underwent immediate surgery upon arrival at Kingwood Hospital and are now in stable condition.” Meyers also issued a public appeal for information regarding Jayden Christley’s whereabouts, urging anyone with relevant details to contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-7867, emphasizing that Christley should be considered armed and dangerous.

The swift and coordinated response by law enforcement agencies underscores the ongoing commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice. The collaborative efforts of the LCSO, EMS personnel, and investigative units have been pivotal in swiftly responding to this alarming incident and initiating necessary legal actions against the individuals responsible for the heinous act.
