In Colfax, North Dakota, an ambulance met a fiery demise on Saturday night, resulting in a total loss. The incident occurred on I-29 in Richland County shortly after 9 p.m.

Reports from the North Dakota Highway Patrol indicate that a Day County Ambulance Service vehicle, travelling northbound on I-29, suddenly caught fire in lane one. The driver, identified as 71-year-old David Dulitz from Webster, SD, quickly brought the ambulance to a halt in the same lane. He then assisted his fellow EMT in safely evacuating a patient from the rear of the vehicle.

Thankfully, both EMTs and the patient were able to escape unharmed before the flames engulfed the ambulance. The fire necessitated the closure of northbound I-29 for approximately 45 minutes while emergency responders extinguished the blaze.

Subsequently, the patient was transferred into the care of a Breckenridge-Wahpeton Ambulance and taken to Sanford Hospital in Fargo for further treatment. The identities of the patient and the second EMT involved have not been disclosed.
