A Burmese student, in a moment of rage, ignited a fire in his room at a condominium in the Lat Phrao area, sparking fear and chaos among the inhabitants. The incident unfolded around 3pm yesterday, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement authorities.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Thewin Sripua, Deputy Inspector at Lat Phrao Police Station, received a distress call regarding a disturbance and fire outbreak in a condominium located in the Khlong Chan sub-district of Bang Kapi, Bangkok. Upon arrival, officers encountered smoke billowing from the eighth floor, where the student was causing a commotion.

According to the security guard on duty, the individual responsible for the chaos was identified as Phayae, a 24-year-old Burmese national enrolled as an international student. The guard recounted how Phayae, armed with a knife, set his room ablaze, triggering panic among residents who feared for their safety.

One resident shared, “He was shouting and creating a disturbance. We were genuinely concerned about our well-being.”

Another resident expressed heightened anxiety due to the combination of fire and a person brandishing a weapon within the building premises.

Law enforcement swiftly intervened and successfully subdued Phayae without further escalation. Subsequently, the police have charged him with public disorder caused by intoxication leading to a loss of self-control in a communal setting. Further legal actions are expected to follow, as reported by KhaoSod.

In a separate incident, a woman under the influence of alcohol set fire to her 73-year-old mother at a residence in the Nong Hong district, Buriram province, following her mother’s plea for sobriety.

The victim, identified as Preeda, disclosed to Nong Hong District Office officials that her 40-year-old daughter, La, was responsible for the heinous act. La doused her mother in gasoline before igniting the flames on September 5 last year.

Preeda managed to extinguish the fire by jumping into a nearby canal after fleeing the house, seeking aid from a local abbot.
