ODESSA, Texas — Authorities have made an arrest in connection to a tragic crash that took place yesterday morning in East Odessa. Benjamin Meece, 37, has been charged with Fail to Stop and Render Aid, a felony offence.

The incident occurred on June 7 at 9:35 a.m. when Odessa Police Department (OPD) and Odessa Fire Rescue (OFR) responded to a major crash at the intersection of University and Oakwood. According to the investigation, a Dodge Challenger, which was being test-driven by Meece, was travelling eastbound on University. At the same time, a Honda Accord was heading westbound on University and attempted to make a left turn onto Oakwood, resulting in a collision with the Dodge Challenger.

Following the crash, Meece did not stop to offer assistance and instead fled the scene on foot. However, he was later apprehended by law enforcement officers. Tragically, the driver of the Honda Accord was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Meece and the front passenger of the Dodge Challenger, identified as 34-year-old Kenneth Salas, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Medical Center Hospital for treatment.

The identity of the deceased individual will be disclosed once they have been positively identified. Meece is currently in custody at MCH and will be transferred to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center upon his release. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
