Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Three individuals, including a police official holding the rank of lieutenant colonel, have been placed behind bars for their alleged involvement in a case of carnapping concerning a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that was rented in Bamban, Tarlac.

The operation, as per a report from the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), was initiated following a complaint lodged by the owner of the MPV, who sought police intervention upon discovering that her vehicle was being illicitly sold on June 5.

According to the complainant, the supposed buyer of the vehicle contacted her through a messaging app to verify her ownership status of the MPV, which was being advertised for sale at a price of P350,000.

The complainant informed the authorities that the MPV had been rented out to an individual named Michael Perez Bautista on June 2. Although the rental agreement was for a period of two days, the vehicle was not returned as scheduled.

Acting promptly, the complainant sought police assistance, and on the evening of January 5, an operation was conducted in Baclaran, Parañaque City, resulting in the successful recovery of the MPV and the apprehension of three suspects.

The individuals taken into custody were later identified as Police Lt. Col. Gideon Ines, Jr., aged 52; Michael Perez Bautista, aged 42; and Lyn Salazar Tuazon, aged 25.

The complainant stated that Bautista had accepted the vehicle during the rental transaction, while Tuazon was responsible for arranging the rental online.

An investigation is underway to ascertain the veracity of the claim that Ines was issuing instructions regarding the sale of the rented vehicle, given his presence and subsequent arrest during the operation.

Authorities have issued a warning to motor vehicle owners to remain vigilant against what has been termed as the ‘rentangay’ scheme, where rented vehicles are surreptitiously sold without the knowledge of the rightful owners.

Legal action is currently being prepared against the detained suspects, with separate administrative charges set to be filed against Ines.
