Driver at Large After Fatal Police Chase in Southeast Houston

Authorities in Houston, Texas, are on the hunt for the driver involved in a tragic incident that resulted in the death of 68-year-old Sharon Griffin. Griffin was struck and killed during a police chase in southeast Houston, leaving her family devastated.

The victim’s daughter, who shared a close bond with her mother, expressed her grief over the loss. The pair lived together, making the loss even more profound for the family.

Houston Police Department has charged Jacolby Pendleton, 30, with murder in connection to the fatal crash that took place on Thursday night. Pendleton is also one of seven suspects recently apprehended in shootings across southeast Houston.

The Escaped Suspect

The incident began when officers identified a known felony suspect with warrants for aggravated assault, engaging in organized crime, and possession of a controlled substance. When police attempted to pull him over at around 8:20 p.m., the suspect fled, initiating a high-speed chase near the I-610 South Loop interchange with SH-288.

During the pursuit, the suspect disregarded traffic signals and even drove on the wrong side of the road, endangering other motorists and pedestrians in the process.

Griffin’s daughter expressed concerns over the decision to engage in a chase in a residential area, questioning the need for such risks.

Tragedy struck when the suspect crashed into a dumpster near Rebecca Street and Tierwester, fleeing the scene afterwards. It was then that authorities discovered Griffin had been fatally struck by the suspect’s vehicle during the crash. Despite efforts to revive her, Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene.
