The four individuals who were arrested following a fatal shooting in Surrey on Friday have now been officially charged with murder, as homicide investigators have confirmed.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Surrey resident, Yuvraj Goyal, who tragically lost his life in the shooting incident that took place at around 8:45 a.m. on Friday near 164 Street and 10 Avenue.

Following the shooting, police were alerted to a vehicle fire on McMillan Road near 20 Avenue, a common occurrence in gang-related incidents in the Lower Mainland. While authorities have not explicitly stated that this incident was gang-related, the targeted nature of the shooting has prompted the involvement of the province’s anti-gang squad, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit.

The suspects, three Surrey men named Manvir Basram (23), Sahib Basra (20), Harkirat Jhutty (23), and Keilon Francois (20) from Ontario, have all been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the killing of Goyal.

Despite initial evidence suggesting that the shooting was targeted, investigators have highlighted that Goyal was a well-respected member of the community with no prior police involvement. IHIT is now focused on determining the motive behind his tragic death.

Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Surrey RCMP, Air 1, and IERT in the investigation but emphasised that there is still much work to be done. IHIT continues to work tirelessly to uncover the reasons behind Goyal’s untimely demise.
