PHOENIX – Authorities in Phoenix have launched an investigation into a tragic incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, resulting in the death of a pedestrian.
According to a statement released by the Phoenix Police Department, the incident took place at approximately 2:20 a.m. in the vicinity of 29th Street and Thomas Road.
The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Peter Klabanos, who sustained severe injuries in the collision and tragically did not survive. The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident remained at the scene following the collision.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Klabanos was crossing Thomas Road outside of a designated crossing area when he was struck by a car travelling westbound on Thomas Road.
The driver of the vehicle displayed signs of impairment and was subsequently subjected to a DUI processing. While the driver has been released, final charging decisions will be made pending the completion of toxicology tests and the accident reconstruction process. Speed is also believed to have played a role in the tragic collision.
