A tragic incident unfolded in Indonesia as a missing woman, Farida, 45, was discovered to have been eaten alive by a massive python. The grim discovery was made by her husband and residents of Kalempang village in South Sulawesi province, according to AFP.

Farida had gone missing on Thursday night, prompting a search by the villagers when she failed to return home. Her husband’s suspicions were raised when her belongings were found, leading to the gruesome discovery.

The villagers noticed a python with a swollen belly, prompting them to investigate further. Upon cutting open the snake, they found Farida’s lifeless body inside.

Expressing his regret, Noni, Farida’s husband, lamented not accompanying her that fateful day. He stated, “If I had been with her, the snake would not have dared to touch her.”

Such incidents, though rare, are not unheard of in Indonesia. In a similar case last year, a massive python was killed after strangling and consuming a local farmer in Southeast Sulawesi’s Tinanggea district.

Reticulated pythons, like the one responsible for Farida’s demise, are known for their size and strength. These snakes, which can grow up to 32 feet in length and weigh up to 350 pounds, are indigenous to Indonesia, the Philippines, India, and Borneo.

While their natural diet mainly consists of rodents, larger specimens have been documented feeding on larger prey such as pigs, civets, bearcats, and even primates.

In the United States, federal laws strictly regulate the importation of reticulated pythons, allowing it only for specific purposes such as zoological, educational, medical, and scientific use.

Despite some individuals keeping these snakes as pets, they require ample space and expertise to care for due to their size and predatory nature.
