The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the situation when a hiker contacted emergency services after witnessing the plane going down near the summit of Picacho Peak on a Saturday morning at 7:25.

Upon arrival at the crash site, authorities confirmed that the plane had only one occupant, the pilot, who tragically did not survive the impact. The victim has been identified as 68-year-old James Galvin from Oro Valley.
