– Controversy surrounding photo replacement in East Brunswick High School yearbook
– Investigation into yearbook image swap involving Muslim and Jewish students at East Brunswick High School.

Accident – Death – Obituary News : An investigation is currently underway in East Brunswick, New Jersey, after a shocking incident involving the senior yearbooks at East Brunswick High School. The yearbooks, which were distributed to seniors only, contained a photograph of the Jewish Student Union that had been replaced with a photo of Muslim students. Additionally, the names of the Jewish Student Union members were not included in the yearbook.

East Brunswick Public Schools Superintendent Victor Valeski took to Facebook to address the issue, stating that there had been a clear mix-up in the proof review procedure before the yearbooks went to print. The school board has since hired private legal counsel to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

The Mayor of East Brunswick, Brad Cohen, described the incident as a “blatant Anti-Semitic act” and called on school officials to provide answers regarding how the mix-up occurred and who was responsible. The school board has announced that an independent group will be investigating the incident.

The Jewish Federation in the Heart of New Jersey has demanded accountability and facts surrounding the alterations made to the yearbook photos and names of Jewish students. Charlotte Friedman, president of the school’s Jewish Club, expressed concern over the symbolic erasure of the Jewish students’ identity in the yearbook.

The incident has not only affected Jewish students but has also impacted Muslim students. Zain, a Muslim student who appeared in the misplaced photo, has received death threats and has been subjected to Islamophobic abuse on social media. Despite the backlash, Zain offered his condolences to the Jewish community and expressed hope for resolution and reconciliation.

In response to the situation, Superintendent Valeski has apologised to both the Jewish and Muslim communities for the pain caused by the yearbook incident. The school district is working to reproduce the yearbook page with the correct photo of the Jewish Student Union and the names of its members. Underclassmen who have not yet received their yearbooks will be given corrected versions.

As the investigation continues, Valeski has urged the East Brunswick community to allow for a thorough examination of the issue before passing judgment. He is committed to providing updates to the community as more information becomes available..
