Surat, Jun 8 (PTI) – A tragic incident occurred in Gujarat’s Surat city on Friday night, resulting in the death of three members of a family and injuries to four others. The accident took place around 11.30 pm on the city’s outer ring road, as a car lost control and collided with a group of people sitting by the roadside, according to the Utran police station.
The victims of the accident were identified as an eight-year-old boy named Viyan, his father Devesh Vagjhani (40), and his uncle Sanket Bavaria (32). The driver of the car, Yagnesh Gohil (40), who was travelling from Ahmedabad, allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, leading to the tragic collision.
Inspector A D Mahant explained, “The driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road, crashing into the group of people by the roadside. In a moment of panic, the driver mistakenly accelerated instead of braking, causing the car to collide with the unsuspecting victims.”
Tragically, the child and his uncle were pronounced dead at the scene, while the father succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The four injured victims are currently receiving medical attention, with one individual listed in critical condition.
Additionally, the car also caused damage to two two-wheelers parked nearby. Following the incident, Yagnesh Gohil was arrested by the authorities for his role in the accident.
As the community mourns the loss of three lives and prays for the recovery of the injured, this tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the dangers of driver fatigue.
