Durgesh Pandey : Man Sacrifices Finger for BJP Victory in Lok Sabha Polls

A 30-year-old man in Chhattisgarh made a shocking sacrifice by chopping off his own finger and offering it at a temple in Balrampur on the day of the Lok Sabha election results. The man, identified as Durgesh Pandey and a staunch supporter of the Bharatiya Janata Party, took this extreme step in a bid to pray for the BJP’s victory.

According to a report by India Today, Pandey was initially disheartened to see the Congress leading in the early trends of the election results. Seeking divine intervention, he visited the Goddess Kali temple and fervently prayed for the BJP’s triumph. His prayers seemed to have been answered when the BJP-led NDA started emerging victorious in the polls.

Driven by his faith and devotion, Pandey returned to the temple and carried out the gruesome act of self-mutilation by chopping off his finger on his left hand as an offering to the deity. Despite his attempts to stop the bleeding, he had to be rushed to a nearby Community Health Centre in Samari for medical intervention.

Although the doctors at the health centre performed a surgery, the delay in treatment hindered their efforts to reattach the severed finger. Fortunately, Pandey is now in stable condition and on the path to recovery.

In an interview with India Today, Pandey expressed his deep-seated emotions and conviction behind his drastic gesture. “I made a vow… When the BJP was winning, I went to the temple and offered my finger,” he stated. While he remains content with the BJP’s victory, he expressed a desire for the NDA to surpass the 400-seat mark in the elections.

The Lok Sabha election results saw the BJP secure 240 seats, falling short of a single-party majority but relying on NDA allies to form the government. Meanwhile, the Congress achieved its best performance since 2009 with 99 seats, contributing to the INDIA bloc’s total of 234 seats.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares for his third term in office, the swearing-in ceremony is set to be a grand affair with over 8,000 guests in attendance, including prominent figures from various sectors and cultural performers.
